The Tremblant shuttle is worth it for one traveller, sometimes two, whose flight lands comfortably before a scheduled departure and who is happy to be dropped at a set point. Tremblant lists a seasonal winter shuttle between Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) and the resort on set days, priced per person, plus intercity coach service from downtown Montreal, on its ground transportation page. Check that page for the current fare and timetable before you compare.
A private car changes the sum because it is priced per vehicle. On Elly8.net, YUL to the Tremblant pedestrian village is a fixed US$350 in a Business Sedan, US$455 in a Business SUV and US$910 in an Executive Sprinter for up to twelve people, all-in. For a family of four or a ski group of eight, that per-vehicle price often lands close to or below the cost of buying every seat on a shuttle, and the car leaves when you land rather than when the timetable says.
Is the Tremblant shuttle cheaper than a private car?
For one person, almost always yes. For three or more, often not. A shared shuttle charges every traveller a seat; an Elly8.net car charges once per vehicle: US$350 Business Sedan for up to three, US$455 Business SUV for up to six, US$910 Executive Sprinter for up to twelve. Multiply the per-person fare by your group to compare.
The quickest way to decide is to take the shuttle fare on Tremblant's page, multiply it by the number of travellers, and compare the result with the vehicle that fits your group and its bags. The table below does the other half of the sum: what each Elly8.net vehicle works out to per person at different group sizes. These are divisions for comparison only. The fare is always charged per vehicle, never per person.
| Group size | Vehicle that fits | Fixed fare per vehicle | Per person, as arithmetic |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Business Sedan | US$350 | US$350 |
| 2 | Business Sedan | US$350 | US$175 |
| 3 | Business Sedan (2 bags) or Business SUV (6 bags) | US$350 or US$455 | US$117 or US$152 |
| 4 | Business SUV / Van | US$455 | about US$114 |
| 6 | Business SUV / Van | US$455 | about US$76 |
| 8 | Executive Sprinter | US$910 | about US$114 |
| 12 | Executive Sprinter | US$910 | about US$76 |
Two things stand out. A group of six in one Business SUV pays about US$76 each, and a full Executive Sprinter of twelve pays the same share. The weak spots for a private car are the solo traveller and the group of seven or eight that has just outgrown an SUV; there, a shuttle seat can win on price alone. The full fare list is on the Mont-Tremblant car service page.

The costs that are not on the ticket
The fare is only part of the comparison. On the Tremblant run, three hidden costs decide most bookings.
Timetable risk. A scheduled shuttle leaves at a set time. If your flight is two hours late, or the immigration line is long, the departure goes without you and you wait for the next one, if there is one that day. A private car is booked against your flight number; the chauffeur works to the actual landing time, and waiting is complimentary after a tracked landing. For travellers connecting through a hub in winter, that alone settles it.
Season and days of operation. Tremblant describes its airport shuttle as seasonal and running on set days. If you are arriving in summer for golf or triathlon week, or on a day the shuttle does not run, the comparison is not shuttle versus car; it is coach plus a connection versus car.
The last metre. A shuttle stops at its stops. A private car goes to your hotel's vehicle entrance, the nearest drop-off point in the pedestrian village, or the door of a chalet you have rented, with the chauffeur carrying bags and skis. After two hours on the road, with children asleep in the back, the difference is real.
Coach from downtown Montreal: the budget combination
For a traveller on a tight budget who is not tied to the airport, there is a third route. The STM's 747 bus runs between YUL and downtown Montreal 24 hours a day, and our Montreal page quotes the STM fare at C$11.25 per person, which also works as a 24-hour transit pass. From downtown, Tremblant lists intercity coach service to the resort. That pairing is the cheapest way north for one person with a backpack and a flexible day.
It is also the slowest and the least predictable. You ride into the city, wait for a coach departure, then travel north, with every bag carried at every change. For a family with ski bags, the saving rarely survives the first transfer.
Luggage: where shuttles and cars really differ
Shuttles and coaches have their own baggage rules, set by the operator; check them when you book a seat, particularly for ski bags, snowboard bags and bike boxes. With a private car, capacity is set by the vehicle. The Elly8.net fleet guide lists a Business Sedan at three passengers and two bags, a Business SUV or Van at six and six, and an Executive Sprinter at twelve and twelve. That is why a group of three with two ski bags and three suitcases should book the SUV, not the sedan.
For IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant, usually held in June, bike boxes are the deciding factor. A team with several boxes belongs in an Executive Sprinter; tell the desk how many boxes when you book. The fleet page shows each vehicle class.
Who should take the shuttle
We say this plainly because it is true: the shared shuttle is a good product for the right traveller. Take it if you are:
- Travelling alone, with a single suitcase and skis in a soft bag.
- Landing in the middle of the day, well before a scheduled departure, on a day it runs.
- Happy to be dropped at a set stop and to walk or take a short taxi to your door.
- Not on a deadline at the other end, such as a lesson, a meeting or a dinner booking.
If that is you, the shuttle will usually be the cheapest door-to-door option, and there is no reason to pay for a car.
Who should book a door-to-door car
Book a private car if any of these apply:
- You are three or more. Per-person seats add up quickly; a Business SUV at US$455 carries six.
- Your flight lands late or connects through a hub. Flight tracking and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing mean a delay does not cost you a ride.
- You have children. Child seats are available on request and fitted before pickup.
- You have a lot of gear. Skis, boards, boot bags, golf bags and bike boxes fit the vehicle you book, not the space left on a shared bus.
- You need an invoice. Corporate travellers and retreat organisers get a fixed fare per vehicle, and a corporate account gives monthly invoicing.
- You are arriving on a day the shuttle does not run. In summer and shoulder season, a car is often the only direct option.
The general version of this argument, for any city, is on our chauffeur vs airport shuttle page.
What about renting a car at the airport?
The other option many visitors weigh is a rental car from YUL. It suits travellers who want to explore the Laurentians on their own schedule for the whole week. It is less attractive for a ski trip where the car will sit in a resort parking lot for six days. The Government of Quebec requires Quebec-registered vehicles, rentals included, to be winter-ready from December 1 to March 15, and the last part of the drive is mountain road, often in the dark after a long flight. Add fuel, parking at the resort and the return trip to the rental counter on departure day, and the comparison with one private transfer each way is closer than the daily rental rate suggests. Our chauffeur vs car rental page sets out the general trade-offs.
Larger groups and retreats
A wedding party, a ski club or a company retreat arriving on several flights is where shared shuttles struggle most: different landing times, different hotels, one fixed departure. Several Executive Sprinters and SUVs can be timed to arriving flights and run as one group booking, so nobody waits three hours for the last colleague. See group transportation for how the desk plans multi-flight arrivals.
The return trip changes the sum again
Departures are where shared transport is least forgiving. A shuttle back to YUL leaves at a set time, which may be far earlier than your flight requires, or too late for it. A private car leaves when the desk calculates you need to: the two-hour drive, a weather margin, then the airport. For a US-bound flight, YUL's US preclearance means border formalities happen in Montreal before boarding, and the desk generally suggests leaving the village about five hours before a winter-weekend departure.
Every Elly8.net airport fare is the same in both directions, and booking the round trip together is cheaper: US$665 in a Business Sedan, US$865 in a Business SUV and US$1,730 in an Executive Sprinter. That locks in the vehicle on the busiest checkout days. Our Montreal airport to Mont Tremblant guide explains the timing step by step.
Mixing the two
Some groups split the difference. The parents and children ride in a Business SUV with the luggage while two friends on an earlier flight take the shuttle. Or the group takes a private car up on arrival day, when flights are unpredictable, and books the coach home when the timing is known and the bags are lighter. There is no rule that says one choice must cover the whole trip. Once you are at the resort, short local trips are a separate question, covered in our Tremblant taxi guide.
How booking a private transfer works
- Enter YUL with your flight number and your hotel, condo or chalet address.
- Choose the vehicle by passengers and bags, and add skis, boards, bike boxes or child seats.
- Press Reserve now on the fixed fare, or use the web booker for any address beyond the village. Confirmation comes by email.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a shuttle from Montreal airport to Tremblant?
Yes, in season. Tremblant lists a winter shuttle between YUL and the resort on set days, priced per person, and intercity coach service from downtown Montreal. Check the resort's ground transportation page for the current fare, timetable and baggage rules before you book, because both change by season.
When is a private car cheaper than the Tremblant shuttle?
Multiply the per-person shuttle fare by your group and compare it with the vehicle that fits. An Elly8.net Business SUV is US$455 for up to six people and an Executive Sprinter US$910 for up to twelve, per vehicle. For most groups of three or more, the private car is close to or below the cost of every shuttle seat.
What if my flight lands after the last shuttle?
You would wait for the next scheduled departure or find another way north. A private car is booked against your flight number, the chauffeur works to the actual landing time, and waiting is complimentary after a tracked landing, so a late arrival does not cost you the ride.
Do skis and bike boxes fit on a private transfer?
Yes. Capacity depends on the vehicle: two bags in a Business Sedan, six in a Business SUV and twelve in an Executive Sprinter, per the fleet guide. Tell the desk the number of ski bags, boards and bike boxes and the right vehicle is assigned.
Does the private car go to my chalet?
The fixed fare runs to the Tremblant pedestrian village, where the chauffeur stops at your hotel's vehicle entrance or the nearest drop-off point. Chalets and condos outside the village are priced in the web booker; mention steep or private driveways so the right vehicle is sent in winter.
Is the return to the airport the same price?
Yes. Every Elly8.net airport fare is the same in either direction, from US$350 in a Business Sedan. Booking both legs as a round trip is cheaper, from US$665, and secures the vehicle on busy checkout days.
