A Reagan National Airport car service with Elly8.net is the shortest premium transfer in Washington: about 4 miles (6 km) to downtown DC, roughly 8 minutes on a clear road, for a fixed US$125 in a Business Sedan. The chauffeur tracks your flight, waits inside at baggage claim with a name board, and walks you to the car. Prices run up to US$325 for an Executive Sprinter carrying up to 12 people with bags, and they include the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet.

DCA is also the airport where the cheaper options are genuinely good. Metro stops at the terminal and a metered taxi to the Capitol is around US$19 plus a small airport fee. So this guide is honest about when to use them, and practical about the cases where a chauffeur saves real trouble: the crowded outer curbs at 6 p.m., a family's luggage, a delegation landing on several flights, or a meeting on the Hill twenty minutes after touchdown.

How does a Reagan National Airport car service work?

You book with your flight number. The chauffeur tracks the landing, waits inside at baggage claim of your terminal with a name board, helps with bags and walks you to the car, skipping the app and taxi curbs. Complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. Fixed fares to downtown DC run from US$125 to US$325.

You receive the chauffeur's contact details before you fly. On landing, a message saying which terminal and carousel you are heading for makes the handover even quicker.

See Washington, DC prices and reserve

Know your terminal

Reagan National has two terminals, and the handover depends on which one you land at.

Terminal 2 has its baggage claim on the lower level, Level 1, with the taxi dispatch reached through Doors 5 and 6. The Metrorail station is elevated and connected to the concourse level of Terminal 2, according to the Reagan National FAQ.

Terminal 1, home to the airport's historic lobby, is a short walk inside from the Metro and from Terminal 2. If you are connecting between the two, the airport notes you must go through security again.

Check your airline's terminal before you book and add it to the notes. If you do not know, the flight number is enough for the chauffeur to work it out.

Meet and greet: where the chauffeur stands

With meet and greet, the chauffeur waits inside the terminal at baggage claim, holding the name you gave at booking. Once your bags are off the carousel, you walk out together to the car. You do not need to find a pickup zone, a green flag or a taxi stand.

That matters at DCA because the arrivals curbs are busy and divided by use:

  • App rides use the outer curbs marked with green flags. At Terminal 1 that is the third, outer curb; at Terminal 2, the outer curb on the Baggage Claim level, Zones 1 to 4, according to the Reagan National ground transportation page.
  • Taxis are dispatched first-come, first-served. At Terminal 1 you exit the baggage claim doors and turn right; at Terminal 2 you walk indoors to Doors 5 or 6 on the lower level and go out to the marked dispatch point, per the airport's taxi service page.
  • Friends collecting you use the outer curb, and the airport currently lists its cell phone lot as closed for construction, suggesting the garages instead, with up to 60 minutes free.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority authorises only permitted sedan and limousine services, requires pre-arranged reservations for pickup and prohibits solicitation. Accept a ride only from a pre-arranged chauffeur whose details you already have, a ride app or the official taxi line.

Luggage: match the car to the bags

The single most common problem at any airport curb is a car that is too small. Choose by passengers and bags together:

VehiclePassengersBagsDCA to downtown DCDCA round trip
Business Sedanup to 3up to 2US$125US$240
Business SUVup to 6up to 6US$165US$315
First Class SUVup to 6up to 6US$200US$380
First Class Sedanup to 3up to 2US$220US$420
Executive Sprinterup to 12up to 12US$325US$620

Prices are per vehicle, fixed and all-in. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. A few rules of thumb:

  • Two travellers with two large checked cases and carry-ons: a Business SUV, not a sedan.
  • A family of four with a stroller and car seats: a Business SUV or First Class SUV.
  • Golf bags, skis, instrument cases or a wheelchair: mention them at booking so the right vehicle comes.
  • A team with display cases or camera kit: the Executive Sprinter, which also keeps everyone together.

Child seats are available on request and fitted before you land. The fleet page shows each class.

When Metro or a taxi is the better choice

From DCA, the cheap options are strong, and we would rather you used them when they fit:

  • Metro. The Blue and Yellow lines stop at the airport. Weekday fares are US$2.25 to US$6.75 depending on distance and time, dropping to US$2.25 to US$2.50 after 9:30 p.m. and at weekends, per WMATA. For one traveller with a carry-on heading near a station, it is the sensible answer.
  • Taxi. The airport's approximate fares are about US$19 to the US Capitol and US$23 to Union Station, metered and before the US$3 airport fee. For two people, light bags and no schedule pressure, a taxi is good value.

Book a chauffeur when the car must be waiting, when there are bags or children, when you are going somewhere a taxi line does not suit, or when a single invoice matters. Our chauffeur vs taxi page covers the general case.

Booking tips for DCA

  1. Add the flight number. It is how we track the landing and set the waiting.
  2. Put the name on the sign the traveller will recognise. Assistants often forget this when booking for an executive.
  3. Add the terminal if you know it, and the number of checked bags.
  4. Give a mobile number that works on arrival. For international travellers connecting through DCA, check roaming.
  5. Book the round trip if you know both dates: US$240 in a Business Sedan instead of two one-way fares.
  6. For early departures, the airport says Terminal 2 checkpoints generally open at 4 a.m. and Terminal 1 at 4:30 a.m. Set the pickup accordingly; DCA is close, but security still takes time.
  7. For delegations or teams on several flights, send a manifest. We match vehicles to each arrival and confirm each traveller; see group transportation.

Where people go from DCA

Because DCA is so close, many trips are short and some are not downtown at all:

  • Capitol Hill. Meetings in the House and Senate office buildings. Security closures near the Capitol mean the chauffeur agrees a drop point in advance; book an hourly chauffeur from US$100 an hour, 3-hour minimum, if you have several meetings.
  • Downtown, Penn Quarter and the convention centre. The standard route on our price list.
  • Crystal City, Pentagon City and Arlington. Very short hops; the web booker quotes them.
  • Old Town Alexandria and Mount Vernon. The signature day trip, Mount Vernon and Old Town Alexandria, is a 6-hour package from US$555 in a Business Sedan to US$1,105 in an Executive Sprinter. George Washington's Mount Vernon lists its opening times and tickets.

If your flight lands at Dulles instead, our guides to IAD car service pickups and Dulles to DC by private car cover that longer drive, from US$255 in a Business Sedan.

Meeting a guest rather than yourself

Many DCA bookings are made for someone else: a speaker for a conference, a parent flying in for a graduation, a client for a board meeting. In that case, put the guest's name exactly as it should appear on the sign, add their mobile number so the chauffeur can message them on landing, and tell us who should receive updates. The guest gets the chauffeur's details, and so do you.

For a VIP who prefers not to be identified in the terminal, the sign can carry a company name or an agreed word instead of a personal name; note it in the booking. If the guest needs help through the terminal, such as a wheelchair from the gate, arrange that with the airline, and tell us so the chauffeur meets them at the right point and allows extra time at baggage claim.

Business and government travel

DCA is the airport of the short business trip: in on the first shuttle flight, a day on the Hill or at an agency, out on the evening flight. A corporate account puts every ride on one monthly invoice with cost centres on each line, and an assistant can book the arrival, the hourly meeting day and the return in one email. For official delegations, our government and diplomatic transportation service coordinates arrivals and keeps one manifest. NDAs are available on request. Elly8.net is a chauffeur booking service, not a security company, and coordinates timings with your security team when you have one.

Busy weeks

Some weeks change how long the short trip takes. The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 20 to April 11, 2027, and the parkway along the Potomac between DCA and the city is busy on bloom weekends. Big Capitol events and state visits close streets downtown with little warning. Book early in those weeks and allow extra time.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a car service from Reagan National to downtown DC?

A Business Sedan is US$125, a Business SUV US$165, a First Class SUV US$200, a First Class Sedan US$220 and an Executive Sprinter US$325. Each price is fixed and all-in, including the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. A Business Sedan round trip is US$240.

Where does the chauffeur meet me at DCA?

Inside the terminal at baggage claim, holding a name board, at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 depending on your flight. You do not go to the app curbs or the taxi line; once your bags arrive, the chauffeur walks you to the car.

Which car do I need for two people and four bags?

A Business SUV. A sedan takes up to 3 passengers but only 2 bags, while an SUV takes up to 6 passengers and 6 bags. The Business SUV from DCA to downtown is US$165, fixed and all-in.

Is Metro or a taxi cheaper from Reagan National?

Yes. Metro fares are US$2.25 to US$6.75 on weekdays, and the airport's approximate taxi fare to the US Capitol is about US$19 before a US$3 airport fee. A chauffeur costs more but waits inside, fits your bags and fixes the price in advance.

Can I book a car for a very early flight from DCA?

Yes. The chauffeur collects you at the agreed time and drops you at the Departures curb. The airport says Terminal 2 checkpoints generally open at 4 a.m. and Terminal 1 at 4:30 a.m., so set the pickup with security in mind.

Do you provide child seats at Reagan National?

Yes, on request. Give the ages and number of children when you book, and the seats are fitted before the chauffeur meets you. For families with several children and bags, a Business SUV or First Class SUV gives more room.
