A Portland airport car service from Elly8.net is a pre-booked chauffeur who tracks your flight into Portland International (PDX), meets you inside at baggage claim with a name board, and drives you to the door at a fixed price: US$145 to downtown Portland in a business sedan, US$190 in a business SUV and US$380 in an Executive Sprinter, all-in and per vehicle. The same fares apply to the airport run in the other direction.

This guide walks through a PDX arrival step by step, explains how much luggage each vehicle really takes, and covers the small booking details that decide whether a pickup is smooth. Rides in Portland are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.

Where does a car service meet you at PDX?

Your Elly8.net chauffeur meets you inside the PDX terminal at baggage claim, holding a name board, then walks you to the car on the lower roadway outside baggage claim, at the far end closest to the parking garage. That is where PDX directs limos and town cars. Taxis and app rides use a different area, inside the Short-Term garage.

The split matters at PDX more than at most airports. According to PDX's limo and town car guidance, pre-arranged cars wait on the lower roadway outside baggage claim, at the far end nearest the parking garage. Rideshare pickups for Uber, Lyft and Wingz, and taxis, moved off the main roadway to the Transportation Plaza inside Level 1 of the Short-Term Parking garage, with garage columns labelled by provider. If you follow the general "ground transportation" signs without reading closely, you can end up in the garage when your chauffeur is waiting on the curb.

A PDX arrival, step by step

1. Before you fly. Add the flight number to the booking. The desk tracks the flight, so a delay in Denver or an early landing from Anchorage moves the pickup automatically. You do not need to message anyone from the jet bridge.

2. On landing. Turn your phone on as you taxi in. You will have the chauffeur's name and number by email before pickup. If you are checking bags, a quick text ("landed, at carousel") helps the chauffeur time the walk in.

3. Through the terminal. PDX's renovated main terminal opened in August 2024 under a large mass-timber roof, according to Travel Portland, and the layout differs from what returning visitors remember. PDX also notes that some areas of baggage claim are temporarily closed for updates, with signs posted around the closures. Head for baggage claim as usual.

4. The meet. The chauffeur waits inside at baggage claim with a name board. If you are travelling with a colleague who booked, the board can carry a company name instead of yours; tell us when you book.

5. To the car. Bags collected, the chauffeur helps with the bags and walks you out to the lower roadway, to the limo and town car area near the garage end. The car is close; there is no shuttle and no garage walk.

6. The drive. Downtown is about 12 miles (20 km), roughly 20 minutes on a clear road via I-84 or I-205, longer at rush hour. Complimentary waiting after a tracked landing is included, so a slow carousel is not a problem.

Which car fits your luggage?

Most pickup problems that are not about flight delays are about bags. A sedan that is perfect for two people with carry-ons is wrong for two people with ski bags. Capacity on the fleet page:

VehiclePassengersBagsPDX to downtown, one wayBest for
Business Sedanup to 32US$145One or two travellers, carry-ons and a checked case
First Class Sedanup to 32US$255Executive arrivals, client pickups
Business SUVup to 66US$190Families, golf bags, three or more checked cases
First Class SUVup to 66US$235Premium SUV, extra room for bags
Executive Sprinterup to 1212US$380Teams, wedding parties, ski or bike groups

A few rules of thumb from the desk:

  • Count bags, not people. Two passengers with four checked cases need an SUV.
  • Oversize items need saying. Skis, snowboards, golf bags, bike boxes and strollers change the vehicle. Mention them in the notes.
  • Child seats take space. Child seats are available on request; two seats in a sedan leave room for very little else.
  • Groups split by flight. A team arriving on three flights is often better served by two SUVs than one Sprinter waiting an hour.

The SUV is the most common upgrade we suggest for PDX, because Portland arrivals often bring outdoor gear for the Gorge or Mount Hood.

Flat rate or meter: what you are actually comparing

An Elly8.net PDX fare is fixed when you book: the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet are included, and only tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. A metered taxi or an app ride is priced at the time of travel. That is not a criticism; for one person with a carry-on at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, a taxi or app ride is usually cheaper.

The honest alternatives:

  • MAX Red Line. According to PDX, the station is at the south end of the terminal and trains depart every 15 minutes. TriMet's adult fare is US$2.80, and Travel Portland puts the ride downtown at under 40 minutes. For a solo traveller with light bags staying near a stop, it is the best value in the city.
  • Taxi or rideshare. Both from Level 1 of the Short-Term garage. Fine off-peak with one bag; prices move with demand. Our Portland taxi guide covers metered fares, ranks and the PBOT rules in detail.
  • A pre-booked car. Worth it for late or delayed arrivals, three or more people with bags, child seats, meetings the same afternoon, and suburban addresses.

For the broader argument, see chauffeur vs taxi and Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur.

Beyond downtown: suburbs, the coast road and Washington

Many PDX arrivals are not going downtown. The west-side technology campuses in Hillsboro are about 30 miles (48 km) from the airport, roughly 50 minutes on a clear road and much longer when the Sunset Highway backs up at 4 p.m. Lake Oswego is about 19 miles (31 km), roughly half an hour. Vancouver, Washington is just across the Columbia. Enter any of these in the web booker for a fixed door-to-door price.

For a day that starts with a landing and continues with meetings, book hourly from the airport instead: US$95 an hour in a business sedan and US$120 in a business SUV, with a 3-hour minimum. The chauffeur meets you at baggage claim and stays with you; see hourly chauffeur service.

Departures: getting to PDX on time

The same fixed fares apply on the way out: US$145 from downtown to PDX in a business sedan. A few departure habits help:

  • Leave downtown about two hours before a domestic flight on a weekday morning. The drive is short on a clear road, but I-84 and I-205 traffic is not predictable.
  • Book the return with the arrival. A round trip booked together runs from US$280 in a business sedan and US$725 in an Executive Sprinter.
  • Give the terminal and airline. The chauffeur drops at the departures curb nearest your airline's counter.
  • Early flights need an evening-before booking at the latest. Better still, book days ahead, especially for a 5 a.m. pickup.

Late arrivals, red-eyes and booking for someone else

The flights where a booked car earns its price at PDX are usually the ones nobody wants: the last arrival from the East Coast, the 6 a.m. departure, the connection that misconnects and lands two hours late. At those hours a tired traveller with two suitcases does not want to negotiate any of it. The fixed fare is the same at midnight as at noon, and flight tracking means the chauffeur is there when the plane actually lands, not when it was scheduled to.

Booking for a guest, client or family member. Assistants, event planners and parents book PDX pickups for other people every day. Put the traveller's name and mobile number in the booking, not yours, so the chauffeur can reach them directly, and add your own number as the contact for changes. The name board can show the traveller's name, a company name or an event name. The confirmation email can go to both of you.

Two travellers, two flights. If a couple or two colleagues land an hour apart, decide whether one car waits or two cars run. One car waiting is usually cheaper for gaps under an hour, since complimentary waiting covers part of it and the rest is billed at cost; for longer gaps, two separate pickups are simpler.

Students and older travellers. For a parent sending a university student home, or an older relative flying alone, the meet inside at baggage claim is the point of the booking. The chauffeur finds them, helps with the bags and walks them to the car, and you get the chauffeur's details in advance.

Business travellers and accounts

Portland's corporate travel runs between downtown towers and the west-side campuses, often on the same day. An executive landing at 9 a.m. for meetings in Beaverton and dinner in the Pearl is the classic case for a booked car. A corporate account gives monthly invoicing, assistants can book for executives and visitors, and NDAs are available on request. See airport transfers and airport meet and greet for how the network handles changes.

Teams arriving for a show at the Oregon Convention Center or a roadshow day should look at the Sprinter: our Portland Sprinter van rental guide explains capacity and hourly rates.

How to book a PDX car service

  1. Enter pickup and drop-off. For arrivals, PDX as pickup plus your flight number; for departures, your address, airline and flight time.
  2. Choose the vehicle by bags as well as people. Add child seats and oversize items in the notes.
  3. Reserve now or use the web booker. Downtown fares check out instantly; any other address is priced in the booker. Confirmation arrives by email, chauffeur details before pickup.

Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, refunded to the original card.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a car service from PDX to downtown Portland?

On Elly8.net it is US$145 in a business sedan, US$190 in a business SUV, US$235 in a first class SUV and US$380 in an Executive Sprinter, fixed and all-in per vehicle. The price includes the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. The same fare applies from downtown to PDX.

Where does the driver meet you at Portland airport?

Inside, at baggage claim, where the chauffeur waits with a name board. The car is parked on the lower roadway outside baggage claim, at the far end closest to the parking garage, where PDX directs limos and town cars. Do not follow signs to the rideshare plaza in the garage.

What if my flight into PDX is delayed?

Add your flight number when you book and the desk tracks it, so the pickup moves with the real landing. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. If you are held up at baggage claim, message the chauffeur or the 24/7 desk; extra waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.

Which car fits four people with luggage?

A business SUV, from US$190 from PDX to downtown. It seats up to six with room for six bags. A sedan takes up to three passengers and two bags, which suits couples and solo travellers. For skis, golf bags or bike boxes, mention them in the notes so the right vehicle is sent.

Is the MAX train better than a car from PDX?

For one person with light bags going downtown, yes: TriMet's adult fare is US$2.80 and trains leave every 15 minutes. A pre-booked car is better for late arrivals, groups with luggage, child seats, and destinations away from the MAX line such as Hillsboro or Lake Oswego.

Can you pick me up at PDX for a full day of meetings?

Yes. Book hourly from US$95 an hour in a business sedan with a 3-hour minimum, or a full-day chauffeur from US$700. The chauffeur meets you at baggage claim and stays with you between meetings. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing are available.
