A Barcelona transfer, in the private sense, is a car and driver booked in advance to take you from one fixed point to another: from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) to your hotel, from the hotel to a cruise ship, or from Barcelona Sants station to an apartment in the Gothic Quarter. The price is agreed before the trip, the driver is waiting when you arrive, and nobody needs to find a taxi rank, buy a metro ticket or explain an address in Spanish.
With Elly8.net, an airport transfer from El Prat to Passeig de Gràcia costs from US$105 in a business sedan to US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, fixed and all-in, and charged in US dollars. This guide walks a first-time visitor through how it works, step by step, and is honest about when the metro or a taxi will serve you just as well.
What is a private transfer in Barcelona?
A private transfer is a pre-booked car with a chauffeur for one journey, such as El Prat to your hotel, at a price fixed in advance. The chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside arrivals with a name board and drives you door to door. Elly8.net fares start at US$105 per vehicle from BCN to Passeig de Gràcia.
The word transfer causes some confusion because it covers three different products. A shared shuttle collects several groups and drops each at its hotel in turn, so the price is lower and the ride longer. A taxi is hailed at the rank and paid by the meter. A private transfer is yours alone: one booking, one vehicle, one price, from the door you name to the door you name.
Rides in Barcelona are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer.

The kinds of transfer most visitors book
Airport to hotel. The most common one. El Prat is about 14 km (9 mi) from Passeig de Gràcia, around 19 minutes on a clear road, and the same fare covers most central addresses: the Eixample, the Gothic Quarter, El Born, the Diagonal and the beach hotels. Details on the Barcelona airport transfer page.
Hotel to airport. The same fixed fare in the other direction. The desk works back from your flight time and the terminal you are flying from.
Airport or hotel to the cruise port. Barcelona is a major Mediterranean home port, and the ships board at the Adossat quay and the World Trade Center terminals. Our guide to the airport to cruise port transfer covers this in detail.
Barcelona Sants station. If you arrive by high-speed train from Madrid or France, a chauffeur can meet you at the station. See train station transfers.
Fira Gran Via and conference venues. Trade-show visitors often book a transfer for arrival and an hourly car for show days.
Longer transfers. Girona, Montserrat, the Costa Brava or Madrid itself can be booked as point-to-point rides through the web booker. See city to city car service.
How it works, from booking to the hotel door
Before you fly
You choose the pickup and drop-off. For an airport pickup you add your flight number, which matters more in Barcelona than in many cities because El Prat has two terminals several kilometres apart: Terminal 1 for flights from North America and most network airlines, Terminal 2 mainly for low-cost and short-haul carriers. The flight number tells the chauffeur which building to wait in.
You choose the vehicle by passengers and bags, add child seats with the children's ages, and pay by card in US dollars with Reserve now. A confirmation arrives by email. If your address is not on the price list, the web booker quotes it.
On the day
The desk tracks the flight. Transatlantic arrivals come in the morning, in the same wave as many other long-haul flights, and passport control can take a while. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, so there is no need to hurry through baggage reclaim.
When you come through the doors into arrivals, the chauffeur is waiting with a name board. The chauffeur helps with bags and walks you to the car. Aena designates a meeting point for chauffeur-driven vehicles in the Terminal 1 car park, as shown on its vehicles-for-hire page, so the chauffeur knows exactly where the car will be. The process is explained on meet and greet.
In the car and at the hotel
The drive is along the Ronda Litoral or the Gran Via. Both slow down at the weekday rush and on summer Friday afternoons, but the fare does not change with traffic.
At the other end, Barcelona has a peculiarity first-time visitors should know about. Much of the Gothic Quarter and El Born is pedestrian or restricted to residents, so a car cannot always reach the door. The chauffeur stops at the nearest permitted point and helps with the luggage for the last stretch. In the Eixample, hotel forecourts are small and loading bays are policed, which is why a pre-booked car arrives at the time you set rather than circling.
What the price includes, and what it does not
Elly8.net fares include the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost.
For North American visitors, two points are worth spelling out. The gratuity is already included, so there is no need to calculate a tip at the end of the ride. And the fare is charged in US dollars, so it appears on your statement in your own currency, with no exchange-rate guesswork on a euro meter.
| BCN to Passeig de Gràcia | One way, per vehicle | Round trip, per vehicle | Passengers | Bags |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | US$105 | US$200 | 3 | 2 |
| Business SUV | US$140 | US$270 | 6 | 6 |
| First Class Sedan | US$185 | US$355 | 3 | 2 |
| First Class SUV | US$170 | US$325 | 6 | 6 |
| Executive Sprinter | US$275 | US$525 | 12 | 12 |
Choosing the right vehicle
Most first-time visitors underestimate their luggage. Transatlantic travellers usually carry one large case each plus cabin bags, and a business sedan takes three passengers and two large bags. Two people with two big cases fit comfortably; three people with three big cases do not.
A business SUV or First Class SUV takes six passengers and six bags and is the practical choice for a family of four, for golf bags, or for anyone carrying a stroller and car seats. An Executive Sprinter seats twelve with twelve bags and suits extended families, wedding parties and small corporate groups; see Sprinter van with driver. The full line-up, with photos, is on the fleet page.
The First Class Sedan is an S-Class or similar. It is the choice when the arrival itself matters: a board member, a honeymoon, a first night at one of the big hotels on Passeig de Gràcia.
When a transfer is not the best choice
A private transfer is not always the right tool, and it is better to know before you pay for one.
If you are travelling alone with a cabin bag and your hotel is close to a metro stop, metro line L9 Sud serves both terminals with a dedicated Airport ticket at €5.90, according to TMB's fares page. The same page lists the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, from €12.50, which includes the return metro trips to and from the airport, a good buy if you will use the metro for a few days anyway. Note that the standard T-casual ten-trip card is not valid at the airport stations.
If you are two people with light bags and land in the middle of the day, the official taxi rank is fair value. The 2026 metropolitan tariff adds a €4.60 airport supplement and sets a €21 minimum from the airport; a ride to the Eixample works out at roughly €26 to €30 on the meter. Our guide to the Barcelona airport taxi goes into the tariff in detail.
The transfer earns its place when there are three or more of you with bags, when you have young children who need seats, when you land late or very early, when you are heading straight into a meeting or a show, or when you want the cost of the first hour of the trip fixed before you leave home.
A few Barcelona specifics worth knowing
The low-emission zone. The ZBE Rondes de Barcelona restricts the most polluting vehicles inside the ring roads on weekdays from 7:00 to 20:00, as the city council explains. It matters if you rent a car; in a chauffeured car the partner handles compliance.
Two terminals. If you are connecting to a short-haul flight at Terminal 2 after a few days in the city, tell the desk which terminal you depart from. The drive between the two buildings is not trivial.
Trade-show weeks. During MWC and the other large shows at Fira Gran Via, hotels and cars are in short supply city-wide. Book as early as you can; partners commit vehicles to the earliest confirmed bookings.
Language. The chauffeur has your name, flight and address before you land, so there is nothing to explain at the kerb. The Elly8.net desk is reachable 24 hours a day if anything changes.
After the transfer: getting around
Many visitors book the airport transfer and then walk, use the metro or take taxis for the rest of the stay, which is perfectly sensible in a compact city. Others add a car for one or two days: a private city tour, from US$340 per vehicle in a business sedan, or the 6-hour Montserrat day trip, from US$470. Our guide to Barcelona private tours by car explains how a tour day is structured, and day trips with a private driver covers the countryside.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a private transfer from Barcelona airport?
From El Prat to Passeig de Gràcia, Elly8.net fares are US$105 in a business sedan, US$140 in a business SUV, US$185 in a First Class Sedan, US$170 in a First Class SUV and US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. The price includes chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet; tolls and parking are billed at cost.
Where will the driver meet me at El Prat?
Inside the arrivals hall of your terminal, after baggage reclaim, holding a name board. The chauffeur checks your terminal from the flight number, tracks the landing and then walks you to the car. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary.
Do you need to tip the driver?
No. Standard gratuity is already included in every Elly8.net fare, so there is nothing to add at the end of the ride. If a chauffeur goes well beyond the booking, an extra tip is a personal choice rather than an expectation.
Can the car take us right to a hotel in the Gothic Quarter?
Often not to the door, because much of the old town is pedestrian or restricted. The chauffeur stops at the nearest permitted point, often on Via Laietana or near Plaça de Catalunya, and helps with the luggage. Tell the desk your hotel when booking and it plans the drop-off.
Is a transfer cheaper than a taxi?
For one or two people, no. A metered taxi to the Eixample is roughly €26 to €30 on the 2026 tariff, and the metro is €5.90. A fixed transfer becomes competitive for three or more travellers with luggage, families needing child seats, and anyone who wants the price settled before travelling.
What if the flight is cancelled or arrives a day late?
Call the 24/7 desk and the booking moves to the new arrival. Cancelling the ride itself follows the published terms: free more than 72 hours before pickup, then 10%, 50% and 100% at 72, 48 and 24 hours or less.
