Most New York weddings need fewer cars than couples fear and more planning than they expect. A typical wedding needs one car for the couple, one vehicle for the wedding party, sometimes a car for parents and grandparents, and, if guests are staying at a hotel away from the venue, one or two shuttles. With Elly8.net, a First Class sedan for the couple starts at US$170 an hour and an Executive Sprinter for the wedding party at US$210 an hour, with a 3-hour minimum.
The timing matters as much as the count. Saturdays in the spring and autumn wedding seasons book up early, and larger vehicles go first. This guide works through the numbers for small, medium and large weddings, the day-of schedule, and when to reserve.
How many cars does an NYC wedding need?
Plan one car for the couple, one vehicle for the wedding party, an optional car for close family, and one shuttle seat for every guest who needs a ride from the hotel. A Business SUV seats 6 and an Executive Sprinter 12, so 40 shuttle guests need about four Sprinter loads.
Start with people, not vehicles. Write down who must move, from where and when: the couple, the wedding party, parents and grandparents, guests at the hotel, and anyone arriving by air that week. Then match them to vehicles using the capacities on our fleet page.
| Wedding size | Couple | Wedding party | Family | Guest shuttle | Typical total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| City Hall or elopement, up to 10 guests | First Class sedan | Shared Business SUV or Sprinter | Not needed | Not needed | 1 to 2 vehicles |
| Intimate, 30 to 60 guests | First Class sedan | Executive Sprinter | Business SUV | 1 Sprinter making loops | 3 to 4 vehicles |
| Classic, 80 to 120 guests | First Class sedan or Rolls-Royce | Executive Sprinter | Business SUV | 2 Sprinters making loops | 4 to 5 vehicles |
| Large, 150 guests or more | First Class sedan or Rolls-Royce | 1 or 2 Sprinters | 1 or 2 SUVs | 3 or more Sprinters | 6 or more vehicles |
The guest shuttle is where most of the vehicles are, and where most of the savings are. A shuttle does not need a seat for every guest at once if it makes loops. A 12-seat Executive Sprinter running a 15-minute loop between a Midtown hotel and a nearby venue can move about 48 people in an hour. If the venue is 45 minutes away, every guest needs a seat on the first run, and the count doubles.
The vehicles, and what each one costs
These are Elly8.net's published New York prices. They are fixed and all-in per vehicle, including the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
- First Class sedan (up to 3 passengers): from US$170 an hour. The usual choice for the couple, with room for a dress.
- First Class SUV (up to 6): from US$160 an hour. The couple plus parents, or the couple with a photographer.
- Business SUV (up to 6): from US$135 an hour. Parents, grandparents and family.
- Executive Sprinter (up to 12): from US$210 an hour. The wedding party, and the guest shuttle.
- Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Maybach and stretch limousines: quoted in the web booker for your date. These are the photograph cars, and they book out first.
All hourly bookings have a 3-hour minimum. For the reception night, the evening out and event night package fixes the whole evening in one price, from US$850 in a First Class sedan to US$1,050 in an Executive Sprinter.

A worked example for a classic wedding: the couple's First Class sedan for 4 hours (US$680), the wedding party Sprinter for 4 hours (US$840), a Business SUV for the parents for 3 hours (US$405) and two Sprinters running guest loops for 3 hours each (US$1,260). That is US$3,185 for five vehicles, before tolls and parking. A lot of that budget is the shuttle, which is why it pays to get the guest count right.
When to book wedding cars in New York
Book the transport after the venue and the date, and well before the invitations. A sensible timeline:
- 9 to 12 months ahead: reserve the couple's car if you want a Rolls-Royce, a Maybach or a classic stretch for photographs, and the wedding party vehicle for a Saturday in peak season.
- 4 to 6 months ahead: fix the guest shuttle once the hotel block is set, and add a car for family.
- 6 to 8 weeks ahead: final timings, addresses and passenger counts. Add child seats for young flower girls and ring bearers.
- 1 week ahead: confirm the run-of-show with the desk: getting-ready address, ceremony time, photo stops and the send-off time.
Cancellation terms make early booking low-risk. With Elly8.net, cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup is free; within 72 hours 10% applies, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or for a no-show 100%, refunded to the original card. The full cancellation policy is on the site.
Be careful with dates that overlap the city's big events. The TCS New York City Marathon closes bridges and avenues across the five boroughs on the first Sunday of November, Thanksgiving brings the parade through Midtown, and UN General Assembly week each September adds security zones on the East Side. A wedding on those days needs extra time between stops.
A wedding day, hour by hour
Here is a typical schedule for a Manhattan ceremony and reception, and where each vehicle fits.
Getting ready. The Sprinter collects the wedding party from the hotel or apartment and brings them to the ceremony first. The couple's car collects one partner, then the other if they are getting ready in different places. Allow the full 3-hour minimum, because getting-ready time always runs over.
The ceremony. Guests at the hotel ride the shuttle. Plan the last shuttle to arrive at least 20 minutes before the ceremony starts, because Manhattan traffic is not reliable on a Saturday afternoon.
Photographs. Many couples stop for photographs in Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, DUMBO or along the Hudson. The couple's car waits nearby and moves between locations. If you plan a ceremony, rather than just photos, in a city park, note that NYC Parks requires a special events permit for events and activities where twenty or more people will be present.
The reception. The couple's car can be released after arrival and booked again for the send-off, or kept on the evening package. The shuttle runs guests back to the hotel in waves from the late evening, which is cheaper than one big run at the very end.
The send-off. A First Class sedan or a Rolls-Royce for the exit, to the hotel, to a suite or to the airport the next morning.
City Hall weddings and small ceremonies
New York's City Hall wedding is one of the most popular ways to marry in the city, and it needs only one or two cars. According to the Office of the City Clerk, the Marriage Bureau is open for in-person appointments only, with no walk-ins, and appointments for marriage ceremonies and licences are booked through Project Cupid. Book the car around the confirmed appointment time.
A First Class sedan or SUV on the 3-hour minimum covers the ride to the ceremony, a stop for photographs and the ride to lunch. For a small group, an Executive Sprinter at US$210 an hour keeps everyone together. If guests are flying in, an airport transfer from JFK to Midtown starts at US$210 in a business sedan and US$550 in an Executive Sprinter, and LaGuardia from US$145.
Weddings outside Manhattan
Many New York couples marry outside the city, and the distances change the plan.
Long Island and the Hamptons. Estates, beach clubs and vineyards out east are two to three hours from Manhattan. Guests usually stay locally, so the shuttle runs on the East End and a separate car brings the couple out. Our Hamptons car service prices start from the East End, with hourly cars from US$110. If you are considering a vineyard, the regional Long Island Wine Country FAQ says most wineries and vineyards need at least a year's notice for weddings; our Long Island wine tour guide helps with the scouting day.
Westchester and Greenwich. Country clubs and estates north of the city. See Westchester and Greenwich car service for local prices and the HPN airport.
New Jersey. Waterfront venues across the Hudson are close in miles but depend on the tunnels. Allow extra time on a Saturday, and expect tunnel tolls billed at cost.
Common mistakes, and how to avoid them
- Counting seats at once instead of loops. A shuttle that loops often needs half the vehicles.
- Booking a party bus for the wedding party. It looks fun, but for a day of formalwear, photographs and short hops, an Executive Sprinter with upright seats is easier. Our NYC limo bus guide explains when the bigger vehicles do make sense.
- Forgetting the seat belt rule. New York State requires every passenger to wear a seat belt, wherever they sit, as the TLC's seat belt law page explains. A full dress still needs a belted seat, so do not squeeze six people into a three-seat car.
- No buffer between ceremony and reception. Add 20 to 30 minutes for traffic and photographs.
- One phone number for everything. Give the desk a day-of contact who is not the couple, often the planner or a sibling.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a wedding limo cost in NYC?
With Elly8.net, a First Class sedan for the couple starts at US$170 an hour and an Executive Sprinter for the wedding party at US$210 an hour, both with a 3-hour minimum. A Business SUV for family starts at US$135 an hour. Rolls-Royce, Maybach and stretch limousines are quoted in the web booker. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
How many guests can one shuttle carry?
An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers. On a short loop between a hotel and the venue, one Sprinter can move about four loads an hour. For a venue 45 minutes or more away, plan a seat for every guest on the same run.
How far in advance should we book wedding cars?
For a Saturday in spring or autumn, book the couple's car and the wedding party vehicle 9 to 12 months ahead, especially for a Rolls-Royce, Maybach or stretch. Fix the guest shuttle once the hotel block is set. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup.
Do we need a car for a City Hall wedding?
It helps. The Marriage Bureau works by appointment only, so a car booked around the appointment time takes the stress out of arriving on time. A First Class sedan or SUV on the 3-hour minimum covers the ceremony, photographs and lunch.
Can you provide child seats for the flower girl and ring bearer?
Yes. Child seats are available on request. Add the number and type, infant, convertible or booster, when you book, and the chauffeur installs them before pickup.
Can the chauffeur wait during the ceremony and reception?
Yes, on hourly bookings the car waits for the time you have booked. Many couples release the car after arrival and book it again for the send-off, or use the evening package to cover the reception night in one fixed price.
