Saint-Tropez is about 111 km (69 mi) west of Nice by road, roughly an hour and forty minutes on a clear road by our routed estimate, and about the same from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. The drive follows the A8 motorway west past Antibes and Cannes, then leaves it for the roads down to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. In July and August, the last part of that drive is where the time goes.
There is no railway station in Saint-Tropez, so every option involves a road or a boat. The airport taxi's published 2026 range is €280 to €310 by day, one way; a seasonal boat runs from Nice in high season; and a train and bus combination works for patient travellers. With Elly8.net, a full-day chauffeur from Nice costs from US$665 in a business sedan to US$1,325 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, and a one-way transfer is quoted in the web booker. This guide compares them all.
How long does it take to drive from Nice to Saint-Tropez?
About 1 hour 40 minutes for 111 km (69 mi) on a clear road, by our routed estimate from the Promenade des Anglais, and about 1 hour 45 minutes from Nice airport. In summer, at weekends and around the gulf at busy hours, allow considerably longer. A fixed Elly8.net fare does not change with traffic.
The motorway section is fast and predictable outside holiday weekends. The variable is the approach to Saint-Tropez itself: the town sits at the end of a peninsula, and summer traffic around the gulf builds through the day. The Saint-Tropez tourist office itself recommends the train as a way to avoid the busiest roads. With a driver, the answer is timing rather than route: leave Nice early, and plan the return before or after the evening peak.
Five ways from Nice to Saint-Tropez
| Option | Price | Time and effort | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elly8.net full-day chauffeur from Nice | From US$665 business sedan, US$850 business SUV, US$1,325 Executive Sprinter, per vehicle | Door to door, the car waits all day | A day trip with stops, families, groups |
| Elly8.net one-way transfer | Quoted in the web booker, fixed | Door to door, meet and greet at the airport | Arriving at NCE and staying in Saint-Tropez |
| Taxi from Nice airport | €280-310 by day (8:00-18:00), €340-360 at night, Sundays and holidays, plus supplements and tolls | Door to door, one way | Spontaneous one-way trips |
| Boat from Nice (high season) | Seasonal service; see the operator's timetable | Sea crossing, then on foot in Saint-Tropez | Summer day visitors travelling light |
| Train to Saint-Raphaël, then ZOU bus 876 | Train and bus fares | Two legs and a change; the bus runs via Sainte-Maxime | Budget travellers with time |
The taxi range comes from the airport's 2026 taxi fare sheet, which lists indicative prices including tax but excluding supplements, such as €2 per suitcase from the fourth bag, €4 for a fifth passenger and motorway tolls. The public-transport options come from the Saint-Tropez tourist office: in high season the Trans Côte d'Azur boats run to Saint-Tropez from Nice and Cannes, and from Saint-Raphaël – Valescure station the ZOU line 876 bus runs to Saint-Tropez via Sainte-Maxime. From Nice airport's Terminal 2 bus station, ZOU line 90 runs to Saint-Raphaël, according to the airport's public transport page.
Fairly put, the boat is a lovely way to arrive for a summer day visitor with a small bag, and the train and bus are the cheapest route. The taxi is a simple one-way option at a published price. A chauffeur makes sense when you want stops on the way, a car that waits while you lunch at the beach, a family or group in one vehicle, or a return at the hour you choose rather than the last boat.
Stops on the way
A day with a driver can turn the drive into part of the trip. Distances are routed estimates on a clear road.
Antibes. About 22 km (13 mi) from the Promenade, half an hour. The old town, the ramparts and the yacht harbour make a good coffee stop on the way out.
Cannes. About 32 km (20 mi) from Nice, 35 minutes. A walk along the Croisette and past the Palais des Festivals; see our Cannes chauffeur page if you are staying there.
The Esterel coast. Beyond Cannes, travellers with time can leave the motorway for the coast road past the red rocks of the Esterel towards Saint-Raphaël. It is slower but scenic; tell the desk if you want it.
Port Grimaud and Sainte-Maxime. On the gulf, just before Saint-Tropez. From Sainte-Maxime, the Bateaux Verts cross to Saint-Tropez all year; the tourist office lists an adult one-way direct crossing at €9. Some travellers are dropped here and take the boat across for the arrival by sea.
Ramatuelle and Gassin. The hill villages above the peninsula. Ramatuelle is about 10 km (6 mi) from Saint-Tropez, and the long Pampelonne beach lies within the commune.
In Saint-Tropez
The old port and the lanes around it are best on foot, so the chauffeur drops you at the nearest convenient point and agrees where to collect you. Parking in town is paid, according to the tourist office's parking listings, which is one of the quiet advantages of a car that drops and collects rather than parks. Parking charges, if any, are billed at cost.
Market days. According to the tourist office, the Saint-Tropez market fills the Place des Lices every Tuesday and Saturday morning with more than 100 stalls of Provençal produce, flowers and crafts. It is a highlight, and it also means busier streets and slower traffic on those mornings.
Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Every year in late September and early October, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez brings hundreds of classic and modern sailing yachts to the port for around ten days; the tourist office announces the next edition for 2027. Book transport early for those dates.
Beaches. Pampelonne, in Ramatuelle, is the beach most visitors mean when they talk about Saint-Tropez. A car makes it easy to combine the town in the morning with a beach lunch.
Day trip, transfer or overnight?
A day trip from Nice. Leave by 8:30, stop in Antibes or Cannes on the way, arrive late morning, spend the day in town and at the beach, and leave before the evening rush around the gulf or after dinner. The full-day chauffeur from Nice costs from US$665 in a business sedan, US$850 in a business SUV, US$1,070 in a First Class Sedan, US$995 in a First Class SUV and US$1,325 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle.
Arriving at Nice airport and going straight to Saint-Tropez. Many travellers land in Nice and spend their first nights on the gulf. Give the flight number when you book; the chauffeur tracks the landing, waits in arrivals with a name board, and drives you directly, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. The one-way fare is fixed in the web booker. Our guide to arriving in Nice covers the meeting at the airport.
Private aviation. The Golfe de Saint-Tropez airport serves private and business flights close to the peninsula, and Nice has its own business aviation terminal. Chauffeurs collect from both; see private jet and FBO transfers.
Yachts. Charter guests often fly into Nice and join the boat in Saint-Tropez. The chauffeur delivers guests and luggage to the quay; tell the desk the berth or the agent's instructions.
A sample day from Nice
This is how a summer weekday usually runs with a full-day chauffeur, using routed drive times on a clear road.
- 8:30 Pickup at your Nice hotel or villa. West on the A8.
- 9:00 Coffee and a walk in Antibes old town, or carry on and save the time for Saint-Tropez.
- 11:00 Arrival in Saint-Tropez, dropped near the old port. On a Tuesday or Saturday, the market on the Place des Lices first.
- 13:00 Lunch at Pampelonne, a short drive away in Ramatuelle, or in town by the harbour.
- 15:30 The hill village of Gassin or Ramatuelle for the views, or more time on the beach.
- 17:00 or after dinner Leave for Nice. Leaving before the evening peak around the gulf, or after dinner when it has eased, keeps the return close to the clear-road time.
The plan is yours. The chauffeur waits during the day and moves you between the stops you choose, within the hours of the booking.
Coming back, and catching a flight
The return is the part to plan carefully. If you are flying out of Nice after a stay in Saint-Tropez, give the desk the flight time when you book: the pickup is set to allow for the drive at that hour and season, check-in and security, with a generous margin for summer traffic on the peninsula. The one-way fare is fixed in advance and does not change if the drive takes longer.
For a day trip, agree the return time in the morning and adjust it during the day by message to the chauffeur or the 24/7 desk. If you would rather stay for dinner in Saint-Tropez and return late, choose that when you book so the day is planned around it.
Choosing the vehicle
For a day trip, a Business Sedan carries 3 passengers and 2 bags, and a First Class Sedan the same in an S-Class or similar. Families and friends travelling together take a Business SUV or First Class SUV, 6 passengers and 6 bags, which also suits a transfer with luggage for a week on the coast. Groups and wedding parties take an Executive Sprinter, 12 passengers and 12 bags. See the fleet and Sprinter van with driver.
As arithmetic for comparison only, a business SUV day at US$850 shared by six travellers works out at about US$142 each, while the taxi's one-way daytime range of €280 to €310 covers a single journey for up to four people before supplements. Elly8.net prices are always per vehicle.
Rides in Nice are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer.
