A Milan transfer is a single, pre-booked trip in a private car with a chauffeur, from one fixed point to another: an airport to your hotel, Milano Centrale to a meeting, your hotel to Lake Como. With Elly8.net it has a fixed, all-in price per vehicle agreed before you travel, from US$110 in a Business Sedan from Linate and US$230 from Malpensa, charged in US dollars.
For first-time visitors, the useful questions are less about the car than about the city: which airport you use, how stations work, why some hotel doors are hard to reach, and when the train is honestly the better choice. This guide answers those, one transfer type at a time, and links to deeper guides for each airport.
What is a private transfer in Milan?
A private transfer in Milan is a pre-booked car and chauffeur for one trip between two set points, such as Malpensa and your hotel, at a price fixed in advance. Elly8.net fares are per vehicle and include the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
A transfer is different from three other things you may be weighing. It is not a taxi from the rank, priced by the city tariff when you get in. It is not a rideshare, priced by demand when you tap. And it is not an hourly booking, where the car stays with you as directed. A transfer starts, finishes, and has a price on the confirmation.
Rides in Milan are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
The transfers first-time visitors book most
| Transfer | Distance (centre) | Clear-road drive | Elly8.net fare per vehicle | Public alternative |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Malpensa (MXP) to the city | 47 km / 29 mi | about 51 min | from US$230 to US$600 | Malpensa Express, €15 per adult |
| Linate (LIN) to the city | 9 km / 6 mi | about 17 min | from US$110 to US$290 | M4 metro, €2.20 |
| Bergamo (BGY) to the city | 55 km / 34 mi | about 53 min | from US$250 to US$650 | Coach to Milano Centrale |
| Milano Centrale to a hotel | short city ride | varies | quoted in the web booker | Metro, tram or taxi |
| Hotel to Fiera Milano, Rho | 12 km / 8 mi, routed | about 19 min, routed | quoted in the web booker | Public transport or taxi |
| Malpensa to Bellagio, Lake Como | 78 km / 48 mi | about 87 min | from US$320 to US$835 | Train plus boat or bus |
Every airport fare is the same fixed price in either direction, so the Malpensa fare for your arrival is also the fare for your departure. Fares run from a Business Sedan up to an Executive Sprinter; the vehicle you need depends on people and bags, covered further down.
Airport transfers: which of the three airports
Milan has three airports and visitors often do not know which one their ticket uses until they look closely.
Malpensa (MXP) is the intercontinental airport, where nonstop flights from the United States and Canada land. It has two terminals linked by a free shuttle, and the meeting happens inside arrivals with a name board. Our Malpensa transfer guide walks through the terminals, immigration and the meeting.
Linate (LIN) is the city airport, close to the centre, used for domestic and European flights. If you connect in Europe, you may land here. The M4 metro reaches San Babila in about 12 minutes on a €2.20 ticket (YesMilano), which makes it the one Milan airport where a car is rarely essential for a solo traveller.
Bergamo, Il Caravaggio (BGY) is east of Milan near Bergamo and handles mainly European flights. Coaches run to Milano Centrale, and a short bus links the airport to Bergamo's railway station (Milan Bergamo Airport). A private transfer from Bergamo to central Milan is fixed from US$250 in a Business Sedan, US$325 in a Business SUV and US$650 in an Executive Sprinter, and Bergamo's upper town is a short drive from the terminal if you would rather start your trip there.
The side-by-side on all three, with train, taxi and car numbers, is in Milan airport to city center. For how to set up the booking so the car is waiting, read Arriving in Milan: booking an airport transfer.
Station transfers: Milano Centrale and the high-speed trains
Many visitors arrive in Milan by train from Rome, Florence or Venice, or leave by train for the next city. Milano Centrale is the main hub, a large and busy station, and Porta Garibaldi is the other major stop, next to the Porta Nuova business district.
A station transfer solves the last mile with luggage. The chauffeur meets you at an agreed point in the station, takes the bags, and walks you to the car rather than leaving you in the taxi queue at the evening peak. For departures, the car drops you at the station with time to find your platform. Book a train station transfer with your train number so the timing follows the train.
If your next city is not far, compare a door-to-door city to city car service with the train. For a couple with two cases going from Milan to Lake Como or into the Swiss mountains, the car often wins on door-to-door time. For Rome, the high-speed train is faster.
Hotel transfers and Milan's tricky streets
The address you give us matters more in Milan than in most North American cities.
The Quadrilatero della Moda. Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga and the streets around them hold flagship stores and several leading hotels. Some are narrow, some pedestrian. The chauffeur sets you down at the entrance the hotel uses, which is not always on the street in your booking.
Brera and the Duomo area. The old streets around Brera and the cathedral square have pedestrian zones and limited access. Tell the desk the hotel name, not just the street, and the chauffeur plans the nearest permitted drop.
Area C. Central Milan's congestion charge zone is active on weekdays from 7:30 to 19:30, excluding public holidays, and the standard daily ticket for a car is €7.50 (Comune di Milano, Area C). In a chauffeured car the access is handled by the partner, which is one reason visitors rarely rent a car for a city stay.
Hotel to hotel. Moving from a Brera hotel to a lakeside one, or from the city to an airport hotel the night before an early flight, is a transfer like any other. Give both addresses and the time.
Fair transfers: Fiera Milano in Rho
Fiera Milano in Rho hosts the Salone del Mobile in April and many other fairs during the year. It is about 12 km (8 mi) from the Quadrilatero, a routed estimate of 19 minutes on a clear road, but approach roads fill at opening and closing. Milan's taxis have fixed fares from Malpensa to Rho (€94) and from Linate to Rho (€68), published by the city.
For exhibitors and visitors, the most common pattern is a transfer on arrival day and an hourly car on show days. A car by the hour from US$90 in a Business Sedan, 3-hour minimum, waits near your hall at closing rather than leaving you to the rank.
Transfers to the lakes and the mountains
Milan is the gateway to the lakes and the Alps, and many first-time visitors spend only a night in the city.
- Lake Como. Bellagio and the lake towns are about 78 km (48 mi) from Malpensa, around 87 minutes on a clear road, from US$320 in a Business Sedan; from Linate, from US$315. See the Lake Como car service.
- St. Moritz. A long, scenic drive into Switzerland; book it one way to our St. Moritz car service.
- Zurich. Across the Alps by road; see the Zurich car service.
- Venice. East along the A4; see the Venice car service, or take the high-speed train if you travel light.
Carry passports for any trip into Switzerland, children included.
Choosing the vehicle: people and bags
The right vehicle depends on suitcases as much as people. These are the published capacities for each class on the fleet page:
| Vehicle class | Passengers | Large bags | Typical Milan use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | 3 | 2 | Couple or solo executive |
| First Class Sedan | 3 | 2 | VIP arrival, fashion week |
| Business SUV / Van | 6 | 6 | Family with transatlantic luggage |
| First Class SUV | 6 | 6 | Family or small team, premium |
| Executive Sprinter | 12 | 12 | Groups, buying teams with samples |
A couple with two large cases and two carry-ons fits a sedan. A family of four with four large cases needs an SUV. When in doubt, size up: an SUV costs less than two sedans.
Tell the desk about anything unusual when you book: a stroller, ski or golf bags, a wheelchair that folds, or sample cases for a fashion week showroom. Those change the vehicle more than the passenger count does.
Travelling on business? A corporate account puts fixed fares at all three airports, station transfers and roadshow days on one monthly invoice, with NDAs on request, and the same account books our other European and North American cities.
Timing departures, late arrivals and early flights
Arrivals look after themselves: the chauffeur tracks the flight and the pickup time follows the real landing. Departures need a decision from you, and Milan's traffic is the variable.
Malpensa is about 51 minutes from the centre on a clear road, but the same drive takes longer in the morning rush into and around the city, in the evening peak, and on a rainy Friday. Set the pickup by working back from the time your airline wants you at the terminal, add the clear-road drive, then add a generous margin for traffic. Long-haul departures to North America leave from Malpensa, and check-in, security and passport control all take time there. If you are unsure, tell the desk your flight and we suggest a pickup time.
For Linate, the drive is short, about 17 minutes on a clear road, and the margin can be smaller. For Bergamo, treat it like Malpensa: about 53 minutes on a clear road along the A4 and the eastern ring road, with heavy traffic at peak hours.
Late-night arrivals are where pre-booking pays most. After the last trains, the choice narrows to a taxi rank or an app at whatever price it shows. A booked car is waiting whatever the hour, at the fare on your confirmation.
What is included, and what is not
Each fixed fare includes the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and, for airports, meet and greet inside arrivals; see meet and greet. On airport pickups the chauffeur tracks your flight, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. Child seats are fitted on request when you give the ages.
Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. Elly8.net books the car only; flights and hotels are handled by our travel partner, BookingWorldwide.net.
When the train or metro is the better transfer
For a fair comparison: one traveller with a carry-on, landing at Linate and staying near San Babila, should take the M4. One traveller landing at Malpensa and staying near Centrale or Cadorna does well on the Malpensa Express, €15 for an adult (Malpensa Express tickets). And Milan's taxis offer a clear €114 fixed fare between Malpensa and any city address, published by the Comune di Milano.
A private transfer earns its place with families, child seats, groups, heavy luggage, late or early flights, fixed budgets in US dollars and the lakes. Planning a free day too? See our Milan day trip guide.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a private transfer in Milan?
Elly8.net fares are fixed per vehicle: from Linate from US$110 in a Business Sedan to US$290 in an Executive Sprinter; from Malpensa from US$230 to US$600; from Bergamo from US$250 to US$650. Fares include the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
Is the transfer price per person?
No, always per vehicle. A Business Sedan carries three passengers and two large bags, a Business SUV six passengers and six bags, and an Executive Sprinter twelve and twelve. If you divide the fare across your group, treat it as arithmetic for comparison only.
Can the chauffeur meet me at Milano Centrale?
Yes. Book a station transfer with your train number and the chauffeur meets you at an agreed point in the station, helps with bags and walks you to the car. For departures, give your train time and the car drops you with time to reach the platform.
Is the departure fare the same as the arrival fare?
Yes. Every airport fare on the Milan price list is the same fixed price in either direction, so a hotel-to-Malpensa departure costs the same as the arrival, from US$230 in a Business Sedan. Book both legs together and give the desk your flight for the pickup time.
Do I need a car in Milan itself?
Usually not for sightseeing. The metro, trams and walking cover the centre well, and the congestion zone makes driving yourself unappealing. Book transfers for arrival and departure, and a car by the hour only for busy days such as fashion week, the Salone or a day of meetings.
Can you take us straight from Malpensa to Lake Como?
Yes. Malpensa to Bellagio and the lake towns is a fixed fare from US$320 in a Business Sedan, US$420 in a Business SUV and US$835 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. The chauffeur meets you inside arrivals and drives straight to the lake.
