Seville to Granada by car is about 250 km (155 mi) from the Santa Cruz quarter to the centre of Granada, roughly three hours on a clear road, by our routing on the public OSRM server. Most of it is autovía across the Andalusian interior, east past Osuna and Antequera, then over the hills to Granada. The Alhambra itself is a few minutes further, up the hill above the city.
With a private driver there are two ways to do it. As a day trip, the full-day chauffeur from Elly8.net costs from US$630 in a business sedan to US$1,255 in an Executive Sprinter, fixed and charged in US dollars, but it means about six hours on the road. As a one-way transfer with luggage, continuing your trip in Granada or on to Málaga and the coast, the drive is quoted at a fixed price in the web booker. This guide explains the route, the stops worth making and how to decide.
How long does it take to drive from Seville to Granada?
About three hours on a clear road for roughly 250 km (155 mi) from central Seville to central Granada, by our routed estimate on the public OSRM server, and a few minutes more to the Alhambra. With a coffee stop, plan on three and a half hours; with Osuna and Antequera on the way, most of a day.
All distances and times below are routed estimates from the public OSRM server on a clear road. Traffic leaving Seville and entering Granada adds time at peak hours.
| Leg | Distance | Clear-road time |
|---|---|---|
| Seville (Santa Cruz) to Granada centre | about 250 km (155 mi) | about 3 hr |
| Seville (Santa Cruz) to the Alhambra | about 252 km (156 mi) | about 3 hr 6 min |
| Seville to Osuna | about 88 km (55 mi) | about 1 hr 5 min |
| Osuna to the Antequera Dolmens | about 73 km (45 mi) | about 55 min |

The route east
The drive leaves Seville heading east on the A-92 autovía through olive country. The first hour is open, rolling farmland, with Osuna just off the road. After Antequera, the road climbs through the hills before descending towards Granada and the Sierra Nevada beyond it.
It is not a demanding drive, but it is a long one, and it is where a chauffeur pays for itself in comfort rather than difficulty. Nobody in the party spends six hours concentrating on a motorway in an unfamiliar country, the car can be set up for children with seats fitted before pickup, and the last part, finding a drop-off near the Alhambra's entrance or a hotel in Granada's old quarters, is someone else's job.
Stops worth making
Osuna. About an hour from Seville, Osuna is a historic town whose official tourism pages cover its history, its monuments and its life as a film location. It makes a natural first stop for coffee and a walk around the centre before the longer leg east.
The Antequera Dolmens. Just off the route at Antequera, the Dolmens of Antequera are a UNESCO World Heritage site, a group of megalithic monuments managed by the Junta de Andalucía. The site's official page has visiting information and opening times. A stop here breaks the drive almost exactly in half: about two hours from Seville via Osuna, and about an hour and a half from the Alhambra.
Lunch in Antequera. The town itself is worth an hour, and arriving in Granada mid-afternoon leaves time to check in before an evening walk in the Albaicín or an early start at the Alhambra the next morning.
With both stops, the journey becomes most of a day: leave Seville at 9:00, Osuna by 10:15, the Dolmens by midday, lunch in Antequera, and Granada by about 4 pm. That only works with a car that waits for you, which is the point of a driver on this route.
The Alhambra: book tickets first
The Alhambra is the reason most people make this journey, and its visits are managed by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, the official body that protects and runs the monument. Palace entry is timed and the best slots sell out, so secure tickets before booking the car, and build the timing around your entry. The chauffeur drops you near the entrance and collects you where you finish.
For a day trip from Seville, a palace slot around midday or early afternoon is the realistic target: three hours each way leaves enough time for the visit only if the morning starts early and the afternoon slot is not too late.
A workable day-trip timetable looks like this: collection in Seville at 7:30, a short coffee stop at Antequera, arrival at the Alhambra around 11:00, a palace entry around midday, lunch in Granada, and departure at about 4 pm for an arrival back in Seville by about 7:30 pm. The order can flex around your ticket, but the shape of the day does not change much: early out, palace in the middle, home for a late Spanish dinner.
Day trip or one-way transfer?
This is the decision that shapes the whole plan, and the honest answer depends on how much you want to see.
As a day trip from Seville. About six hours of driving in a day, plus the Alhambra visit, makes for a long day. It is entirely possible with a chauffeur, and it suits travellers with only a few days in Andalusia who want to keep one hotel. Book the full-day chauffeur, from US$630 in a business sedan, US$810 in a business SUV, US$1,035 in a First Class Sedan, US$960 in a First Class SUV and US$1,255 in an Executive Sprinter, and tell the desk your Alhambra time so the departure is planned around it. Because the drive alone is about six hours round trip, the desk confirms the timing when you book, and an extended day is quoted in the web booker.
As a one-way transfer. For most visitors, Granada deserves a night or two, and the better plan is a one-way transfer with luggage: Seville to Granada, with the stops on the way, quoted at a fixed price in the web booker. From Granada, the coast is under two hours away; Málaga is about 128 km (79 mi), roughly an hour and 47 minutes by our routing, and our Marbella and Málaga service picks up the trip from there. See city to city car service.
Flying into Seville and going straight to Granada
Some travellers land at Seville Airport (SVQ) and head directly for Granada, saving Seville for the end of the trip. That works well with a chauffeur: the car meets you in arrivals with a name board, tracks the flight so a late connection through Madrid or Lisbon does not matter, and sets off east without going back through the city. By our routing on the public OSRM server, the airport to the Alhambra is about 254 km (158 mi), a little over three hours on a clear road.
After an overnight flight from North America, we would suggest skipping the stops on this version of the journey, or keeping to one short break at Antequera, and arriving in Granada in time for an early night. The transfer is quoted at a fixed price in the web booker; enter SVQ with your flight number as the pickup. See airport transfers and airport meet and greet for how the meeting works.
Timing the drive by season
Andalusia's interior is very hot in high summer, and the drive is more pleasant with an early start: leave Seville at 8 am and you reach Antequera before the worst of the afternoon heat, with the car's air conditioning doing the work in between. In spring and autumn, a 9 am departure is comfortable, and the stops are at their best. In winter, days are short, so the full-day version with both stops is tighter; a single stop at Antequera keeps the arrival in daylight.
Whatever the season, the two pinch points are the same: leaving Seville in the morning rush and arriving in Granada as the city's own traffic builds in the early evening. A departure after 9 am and an arrival before 5 pm avoid most of both.
Families, groups and luggage
A family moving hotels with suitcases, strollers and car seats is exactly the case for a chauffeur on this route. Ask for child or booster seats when you book and give the children's ages, and the partner fits them before pickup. A Business SUV takes six passengers and six large bags; two families travelling together fit one Executive Sprinter. For a group, see group transportation.
The alternatives, compared fairly
Rail and coach both connect Seville and Granada, and for a solo traveller with a backpack, either is cheaper than any car. Renfe sells rail tickets for the route; check the timetable for journey times and whether your departure is direct. The car's advantage is door to door with stops, and it grows with the size of the party.
| Option | What you pay | What it is like | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train or coach | Per-person fare | Station to station, taxis at each end | Solo travellers, light luggage |
| Self-drive rental | Rental, fuel, parking in Granada | About three hours driving, then city parking | Confident drivers on a longer road trip |
| Elly8.net full-day chauffeur | US$630 to US$1,255 per vehicle, fixed | Door to door, car waits at every stop | Day trips, families, groups |
| Elly8.net one-way transfer | Fixed price in the web booker | Door to door with luggage and stops | Moving hotels, onward to the coast |
The streets around the Alhambra and the Albaicín are narrow and steep, which is worth remembering if you are considering a rental. With a chauffeur, the drop-off point is planned for you. The trade-offs are set out on chauffeur vs car rental.
Which vehicle, and what the price includes
A Business Sedan or First Class Sedan carries three passengers with two large bags. A Business SUV or First Class SUV carries six passengers and six bags, the usual choice for a family moving hotels. An Executive Sprinter carries twelve passengers and twelve bags, which suits a group on a one-way move or a wedding party heading for the coast; see Sprinter van with driver and the fleet page.
Every Elly8.net price is per vehicle and includes the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity. Tolls and parking are billed at cost. The chauffeur follows local rules on everything inside the vehicle.
Other days out from Seville
Granada is the longest of the classic Andalusian days from Seville. Córdoba is closer, about 140 km (87 mi) and an hour and 40 minutes by road; our Seville to Córdoba transfer guide compares the car with the high-speed train. For Jerez, Cádiz, Ronda and the white villages, see our Seville day trip with a private driver. For the region as a whole, the official Andalusia tourism site covers Granada, Córdoba and the coast. A private city tour of Seville itself costs from US$340 in a business sedan.
Booking and cancellation
Enter your Seville pickup and the Granada address, add the stops you want in the notes or as a multi-stop booking, choose the vehicle, and reserve. Published packages go straight to checkout in US$, and the one-way transfer is quoted in the web booker at a fixed price. Confirmation arrives by email. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, refunded to the original card.
Rides in Seville are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Corporate travellers can book on a corporate account with monthly invoicing in US dollars. The same desk serves Madrid and Lisbon.
